Criticisms won’t make us lose focus – FCT minister Wike

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike asserted that criticism from political opponents would not deter his administration’s progress.

Speaking on Friday after inspecting five active construction projects in Abuja, which include three roads, a flyover, and housing for judges, Wike dismissed negative remarks, stating that if he were inactive, these same critics would find fault with his inaction.

He remarked, “Who exactly are the critics? They don’t concern me. With presidential approval and National Assembly support, I’m not bothered by those who criticize. Even given the opportunity, they likely wouldn’t accomplish anything themselves.”

Wike emphasized that critics would have complained about poor conditions for judges if the projects were not undertaken.

“Now, as we work to create a better environment for judges, they still criticize. So I don’t concern myself with their opinions. My focus is on moving forward and completing the work,” he added.

Wike expressed satisfaction that ongoing projects were providing employment for numerous youths in the area, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which prioritizes job creation.

He noted that while not all employment is in government positions, creating work opportunities allows young people to earn a living.

“Look at the number of youths employed in these road projects. It’s gratifying to see youth engagement.

“If these jobs didn’t exist, imagine what these young people might be doing. It’s a relief to know we’re creating avenues for their employment,” Wike concluded.
