Former bread seller turned model, Olajumoke Orisaguna, popularly known as Olajumoke Onibread, has opened up about her experiences with domestic violence and how her ex-husband, Sunday Orisaguna, allegedly ruined her career.
In an interview with City FM, Olajumoke recounted the challenges she faced while living in her ex-husband’s family home in Ire, Osun State, where she endured abuse from both her mother-in-law and her husband.
“We stayed in my husband’s family house in Ire, Osun State, and it was a toxic environment. My mother-in-law was very hostile towards me, and I had to close my hairdressing shop early just to cook dinner at home. Whatever she told her son, he would believe without hearing my side of the story. He would beat me to the point that my face and body were swollen, sometimes even using a belt,” she said.
Olajumoke explained that she hid the abuse from her own mother, who lived nearby, because her mother had not blessed the union and did not want to interfere.
The turning point came in January 2016 after another violent incident. “We were frying akara for his dad’s remembrance when I had an issue with his elder sister. He beat me again, and I decided I had had enough. I left for Lagos with my two children, planning to work at the bakery where I had been before,” she said.
Olajumoke added that after their separation, her ex-husband began tarnishing her reputation, which negatively impacted her career. “It’s been almost four years since we separated. After we split, he started spoiling my name, and things began to fall apart for me.”
Olajumoke rose to fame in 2016 after accidentally walking into a photoshoot with British rapper Tinie Tempah, captured by photographer TY Bello. The incident catapulted her to stardom, but she now reflects on how her personal struggles have overshadowed her success.
