Gov Aliyu cracks down on Islamic police board with strong warning in Sokoto

Must read

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has cautioned the leadership and members of the Islamic police, also known as Hisbah Board, against misusing their authority to oppress residents.

During the inauguration of the board on Thursday, Aliyu stressed that respecting citizens’ fundamental human rights must be central to the board’s duties.

He advised that Hisbah personnel must operate strictly within legal boundaries when performing their responsibilities.

The governor also clarified that Hisbah is not a police force; rather, its role is limited to making arrests and then handing suspects over to official security agencies.

Aliyu emphasized that Islam condemns social injustices and that such actions should always be avoided.

“Our goal is to eliminate social vices and foster moral and religious values in society, especially since Sokoto is predominantly Muslim,” the governor remarked.

He also encouraged collaboration between Sokoto residents and the Hisbah Board to promote peace and stability in the state.
