The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has distanced itself from recent comments made by its chairman, Mamman Mike Osuman, regarding the 2027 presidential election.
Osuman had reportedly declared that the North would support a Northern presidential candidate in 2027, a statement the ACF has labeled as “unauthorised” and reflective of his personal opinion.
In a statement signed by Alhaji Bashir Muhammad Dalhatu, Chairman of the ACF Board of Trustees, and Alhaji Murtala Aliyu, Secretary General, the forum announced Osuman’s suspension.
“The attention of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has been drawn to widely reported statements credited to Mr Mamman Mike Osuman, SAN, Chairman of the ACF National Executive Committee (NEC), during a meeting of the NEC held on Wednesday, November 2024, at ACF Headquarters, Kaduna.
“In particular, Mr Osuman was quoted as saying that the North will back a Northern candidate for the presidency in 2027. These statements were made without consulting other leaders and members of the ACF and therefore represent Mr Osuman’s personal opinion only.
“The ACF rejects these statements in their entirety,” the statement continued.
In response, the forum has suspended Osuman with immediate effect and has set up a committee to further investigate the matter.
