Unknown gunmen have tragically killed Otukpo-based lawyer and activist Mike Ofikwu outside his residence in Otukpo, Benue State.
Reports indicate that Mr Ofikwu was fatally shot on Wednesday night around 8 p.m. as he waited at the entrance of his home on Otukpa Street.
According to a local source, who requested anonymity, the lawyer had just returned from work and was waiting for his gate to be opened when two armed men in a vehicle approached him and opened fire.
The witness described the incident, saying, “It was like something out of a movie.
“He had just arrived home and was waiting for the gate to open when two men in a vehicle, who had been following him, drove up and shot him before fleeing.”
Neighbours, alerted by the gunfire, rushed to the scene and took Mr Ofikwu to a hospital, but he was pronounced dead due to significant blood loss.
His untimely death has plunged the Idoma community into mourning, as he was a well-known lawyer and activist.
Superintendent Catherine Anene, Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved family and community.
She assured that an investigation is underway, pledging that justice will be served.
