“Tinubu’s policies causing more hardship in North” – Arewa Consultative Forum

Must read

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has criticized the economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, blaming them for the increasing hardships faced in northern Nigeria.

In a communique issued after its National Executive Council meeting in Kaduna on Wednesday, November 20, the pan-northern socio-political group expressed concerns over the worsening conditions in the region. The statement, signed by the ACF National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba, called for urgent action to address critical issues such as insecurity, education, and economic development.

The ACF stated that while economic reforms are necessary, the current policies appear to lack a “human face,” exacerbating the suffering of northern communities.

“Despite the dire economic conditions in Arewa, the policies of the current Federal Government have continued to worsen the situation, showing little sensitivity to the precarious existential challenges faced by the Arewa people. Reforms should not impoverish the very people they aim to serve,” the communique noted.

The forum urged President Tinubu to review and reassess his administration’s economic approach, emphasizing that policies must be people-centered to alleviate the harsh realities on the ground.

Additionally, the ACF called on northern state governors to adopt a coordinated strategy in addressing key areas like security, education, skills acquisition, agriculture, and healthcare. The communique also encouraged the Federal Government to remain open to constructive criticism and suggestions, asserting that inclusivity strengthens democracy and improves governance outcomes.

The forum further urged northern elites to counter negative narratives about the region and to embrace community service, emphasizing that the North’s progress lies in the collective efforts of its people.

The ACF’s message underscores the urgency of addressing the mounting challenges in the North to prevent further deterioration of living conditions in the region.
