NAFDAC uncovers fake alcohol factory in Lagos, seizes 50,000 products worth N2bn

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered and shut down illegal centres for packaging counterfeit alcoholic beverages at the Article Market in Abule-Osun, Lagos.

During the operation, which took place on Thursday, NAFDAC seized over 50,000 fake branded labels and packaging materials intended for producing unauthorized and dangerous alcoholic drinks, with an estimated value of N2 billion.

“These materials were being used to manufacture unapproved alcoholic products that pose serious health risks,” the agency reported, emphasizing that consuming counterfeit alcohol can lead to severe health issues, including poisoning and organ damage.

NAFDAC advised consumers to buy alcoholic beverages only from reputable sellers and urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
