Hisbah destroys N450,000 worth of alcohol, jails vendor in Yobe

The Yobe State Hisbah Board has destroyed over 170 bottles of alcohol, worth approximately N450,000, in the town of Gashua within Bade Local Government Area.

The confiscation took place during a recent patrol by Hisbah officers at a local hotel in Gashua, where a vendor involved in selling the alcohol was detained and later sentenced to jail for violating the state’s alcohol ban.

Ibrahim Babagana Yurema, Chairman of Bade Local Government Area, led the operation and stated that Hisbah is determined to stop alcohol sales and consumption.

Yurema explained that this initiative aims to address the growing issue of alcohol use among youth, which he said negatively affects mental clarity and goes against Islamic principles.

“Our council is committed to combating this immoral behaviour to protect our community from its damaging effects,” Yurema asserted.

The Zonal Commandant for Yobe North, Malam Isah Ibrahim, added that the action followed a Sharia Court ruling.

The court found the seller guilty, sentenced him to prison, and ordered the Hisbah Board to destroy the confiscated alcohol.
