Sunday Abioye, a 51-year-old America returnee, was found dead in a hotel room in Sagamu, Ogun State, on Wednesday. His body was discovered in his hotel room located in the GRA area of Sagamu.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, explaining that the Chief Security Officer of the hotel, Mr. Oluwole, reported the death to the police. When detectives arrived at the scene, they found the body outside the hotel in a car, being prepared for transport to the morgue by the deceased’s family.
According to the deceased’s brother, Jimoh Godday, who lives in Imota, Lagos State, Sunday had returned to Nigeria from the United States on November 16.
On Monday, Godday went to the hotel and knocked on his brother’s door but received no response. He then requested a spare key from the hotel manager to enter the room, where he found his brother’s lifeless body.
The police investigation revealed that photographs were taken at the scene, and several drugs, including traditional medicine, were recovered from the room. The center of the bed was also found soaked with a liquid-like substance.
A friend of the deceased, Ogunmonti Ogunwole, confirmed that he had accompanied Sunday the day before to buy various medications due to his health complaints.
The body has been transferred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital Morgue in Sagamu for an autopsy. While the cause of death is still unknown, the case has been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
