The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has begun investigating claims of extortion involving police officers and a motorist accused of violating traffic regulations in the Kubwa area of Bwari Council.
The Command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, stated on Wednesday confirming that the alleged incident occurred on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
Adeh disclosed that the officers involved have been identified and summoned for questioning, with an ongoing investigation to establish the facts surrounding the allegations.
Adeh urged the complainant, who initially raised the claims on social media, to come forward and provide additional evidence to support her allegations.
“The attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to reports circulating on social media alleging the extortion of a motorist by police officers in the Kubwa area.
“In response, the Command has promptly identified and invited the officers in the video for questioning,” the statement read.
She reiterated the Command’s commitment to professionalism and accountability, stating, “We remain dedicated to maintaining high standards of conduct within the police force. Any officer found guilty of misconduct will be held accountable for their actions.”
The statement also encouraged members of the public to report incidents of police misconduct through dedicated channels.
