The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, conducted a comprehensive inspection of four significant road projects across the territory in a single day.
The inspections took him from Dutse to Bwari in the Bwari Area Council and further to Kwaita, Yebu, Yangoji, and Sukuku in the Kwali Area Council.
The road projects inspected include the rehabilitation of the 5-kilometre Dutse-Usuma Dam Road, upgrading of the War College/Army Checkpoint and other ancillary roads in Bwari Area Council, reconstruction of the 25-kilometre Kwaita-Yebu Road and construction of the 11-kilometre Yangoji-Sukuku-Ebo Road in Kwali Area Council.
Speaking to journalists after the inspection, Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work on all the projects.
He assured that the contractors were on track to meet the December 2024 deadline and emphasized the government’s commitment to providing adequate funding for timely completion.
Wike highlighted the importance of these projects for rural communities, stating that the improved road network would enhance agricultural productivity and contribute to food security in the FCT.
“What amazes me is the length of the roads and the positive impact they will have on these communities,” he said. “For instance, the Kwaita road is impressive in its scale, and the Yangoji-Sukuku road is equally commendable.”
The Minister commended the contractors for their dedication despite challenges posed by heavy rains during the year. He pledged to ensure that funding issues would not hinder the completion of the projects.
“When you see committed contractors delivering quality work, you also have an obligation to provide the necessary support. These roads will bring immense happiness to the people once completed,” Wike said.
Wike underscored the potential of the projects to transform the region’s agricultural landscape.
“The vast land available for farming in these areas could be a game-changer for food security. With these roads, access to markets and productivity will improve significantly,” he added.
The inspections reflect the government’s ongoing efforts under the Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at improving infrastructure and enhancing the livelihoods of residents in the FCT.
