The Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has been described as the leader who will transform the lives of Ghanaian workers if elected on December 7, 2020.
A youth activist of the NDC, Mr. Albert Atta Opoku Vohdi, expressed confidence in Mahama’s vision during a recent interview with the media.
According to Mr. Vohdi, Ghanaian workers have endured unfavorable conditions under the current administration of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
He stated that Mahama’s government will prioritize policies aimed at improving workers’ welfare and ensuring they receive maximum benefits from their labor.
Among the first initiatives Mahama will pursue within 100 days in office is a reduction in fuel prices. Mr. Vohdi explained that high transportation costs erode workers’ meager incomes, and reducing fuel prices would provide much-needed relief.
Additionally, the NDC plans to continue and expand housing projects to provide decent, affordable accommodations for workers. These housing initiatives aim to enhance productivity by offering workers access to comfortable living spaces at reasonable prices.
The activist also highlighted Mahama’s plan to support private lotto operators. Under the current administration, private lotto operators and banker-to-banker stakes have been restricted to operating under the National Lottery Authority (NLA).
Mahama’s government, however, will allow them to operate independently under specific legal frameworks while paying reduced taxes through regional unions.
Mr. Vohdi emphasized that this policy will help sustain the livelihoods of thousands of Ghanaians who rely on private lotto operations for income.
He noted that these operators, who constitute a significant portion of the population, risk turning to illegal activities if their trade continues to be constrained.
Mr. Vohdi expressed optimism about Mahama’s chances in the December 7 polls, predicting a decisive victory for the NDC.
Drawing comparisons to the NDC’s successes in the 2008 and 2012 elections, he argued that Ghanaians are eager for change due to the ruling New Patriotic Party’s failure to fulfill its promises.
He urged voters to turn out in large numbers and vote for Mahama, whom he described as the best candidate to lead Ghana back to prosperity. “In God we trust,” he concluded, calling on all Ghanaians to make the right choice for a brighter future.
