Motorcyclist killed, passenger injured in Ondo kidnapping incident

A motorcyclist was shot dead by suspected kidnappers on Sunday along the Ikun-Oba road in the Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The passenger he was carrying sustained severe injuries in the attack.

An eyewitness, who chose to remain anonymous, reported that a motorist caught in the ambush managed to escape, although his vehicle was hit by multiple bullets.

Rev. Canon Foluso Ogunsuyi, a local resident, expressed concern over the incident, noting that despite increased security patrols in the area, kidnappers had resurfaced. “We are shocked that kidnappers have returned to this road, especially after security operatives had been patrolling the area,” Ogunsuyi said.

He further urged the government to rehabilitate the Ikun-Oba road, highlighting that the kidnappers exploit the dilapidated sections of the road to carry out their activities.

Princess Deborah Jacob, the Regent of Oba-Akoko, confirmed the incident and called for increased security presence along the road, especially with the approaching festive season.

Attempts to contact the Oba-Akoko Divisional Police Officer for comment were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
