Defence Minister Abubakar reveals how armed forces plan to checkmate Lakurawa terrorists

Minister of Defence Badaru Abubakar has assured that the Nigerian armed forces are making significant progress in combating Lakurawa and other terrorist groups active in the North.

During a visit to Sokoto on Monday to review the air component facilities of Operation Fansan Yamma, Abubakar affirmed that the military has taken decisive actions against the Lakurawa.

Referencing remarks from a local government chairman in Kebbi State, Abubakar noted that troops have established a strong presence in areas previously attacked by the Lakurawa, effectively driving them out due to the commitment and hard work of security personnel.

“The air force has achieved notable success, targeting and bombing several bandit hideouts, leaving the criminals on the run,” he stated.

Regarding the ongoing operations, the minister emphasized that residents in the affected areas can attest to the effectiveness of military efforts.

“We recently launched new air capabilities in Katsina, including advanced helicopters specifically aimed at countering banditry and the Lakurawa. Some of these assets will also be redeployed to Sokoto to strengthen our mission,” he added.

Abubakar was accompanied on the visit by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, along with other senior military officers.
