The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has authorized the immediate implementation of the new N70,000 minimum wage for all FCT administration employees.
This decision follows President Bola Tinubu’s enactment of the Minimum Wage Bill in May 2024, a result of extended discussions with organized labour groups.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by Anthony Odeh, the Press Secretary to the Head of the Civil Service of the FCT, and shared with the media on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Wike’s approval for the minimum wage took effect on Monday, November 18, 2024, as a measure to ease financial difficulties faced by FCT administration workers.
Additionally, the Acting Head of Civil Service for the FCT, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, revealed that the minister has approved payment of three months’ wage arrears for all employees, effective from November 2024.
