The Labour Party (LP) has suspended Senator Kevin Chukwu, representing the Enugu East Senatorial Zone, over alleged anti-party activities and insubordination.
The decision was announced by the party’s executives at the Amuri Ward in Nkanu West Local Government Area.
The suspension was formally communicated in a letter signed by the Ward Chairman, Comrade Chika Okoh, and addressed to the Labour Party Chairman in Enugu State, with a copy sent to the Local Government Chairman.
According to the letter, the suspension is effective for 90 days from the date of the notification or upon receipt by the Senator.
The party leadership accused Senator Chukwu of actions that violate the party’s principles, including disregarding directives from the party’s leadership.
The letter highlighted that the Senator had repeatedly ignored invitations to address these issues, prompting the decision to suspend him.
In the letter made available to journalists on Sunday, the Amuri Ward executives stated:
“We, the members of the Executive Council of the Labour Party, Amuri Ward, Nkanu West LGA, hereby formally notify you, Distinguished Senator Kevin Chukwu, of your suspension from the Labour Party for a period of 90 days. This resolution has been passed due to your acts of insubordination, involvement in anti-party activities, and failure to adhere to the party’s principles.”
The letter further noted that the party’s constitutional provisions remain available to Senator Chukwu should he wish to challenge the suspension and seek redress.
