JUST IN: INEC postpones Ondo governorship election collation to midday

Must read

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rescheduled the collation of results for the Ondo State governorship election.

Initially set to resume at 5 a.m. on Sunday, the process will now continue at 12 noon.

The announcement was made by the Returning Officer, Professor Olayemi Akinwunmi, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja.

He cited the need for additional time to ensure the results from the remaining five local government areas are received.

“We still have results pending from Akure North, Okitipupa, Odigbo, Ilaje, and Ese-Odo. We will reconvene at noon to allow adequate time for their arrival,” Prof. Akinwunmi stated.

So far, results from 13 out of the 18 local government areas have been declared, showing the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in a significant lead. Aiyedatiwa has secured 259,851 votes, while his main opponent, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), follows with 81,031 votes.

The collation process is expected to conclude once the remaining local government results are in.
