The Indian community in Nigeria warmly welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday night as he arrived in the country to enhance ties between India and Nigeria.
This visit is seen as a pivotal step in advancing economic, cultural, and diplomatic cooperation.
Upon his arrival, Modi connected with members of the Indian diaspora, including representatives from the Marathi community, who were thrilled about the recent designation of Marathi as a Classical Language.
Reflecting on the moment, Modi posted on X (formerly Twitter), “In Nigeria, the Marathi community expressed their happiness over Marathi being granted Classical Language status. It’s admirable how they maintain a strong bond with their cultural heritage.”
In another post, he expressed gratitude for the reception, saying, “It’s heartwarming to experience such a warm and vibrant welcome from the Indian community in Nigeria!”
This visit marks the first time an Indian Prime Minister has travelled to Nigeria since 2007.
