We have been touching lives many ways since 1983- Capricorn ’83 club

Capricorn ’83 Club of Nigeria has declared that it has been touching the lives of its members and the less privileges in many ways since 1983.

The founding President of the club, Elder Clement Olusegun Atere, made this declaration while speaking at the 40th anniversary of the club.

Our correspondent reports that the social- philanthropic club was founded in 1983.

The club on Saturday organised a party to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the club.

The event which attracted former presidents of the club, current executives, members of the club and well wishers was held at Veterans Hall, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, Ibadan.

Our correspondent reports that past presidents and other members of the club were given meritorious awards at the event.

Atere while speaking, noted that the club has been touching lives of its members and less privileges in the last forty years.

He said, “We want to thank God for what God has used us to do, we are a known face in most of the less privilege homes. Every year and at every occasion, we help as God has provided for us.

“We have listed individual members in the club. As has been mentioned by someone, many of us started as OND holders and now we have made our marks. We have done well for individuals. That is a very big thing we have done for each other.

“We have done well for ourselves. What concerns us most is that let us lift ourselves up first. We have achieved by lifting each others up and assist the less privileges”.

The guest lecturer, Alhaji Ademola Ogunsesan in his lecture, commended the club for what it has been doing.

Ogunsesan who is the President of Ibadan Solidarity Club while speaking also tasked the club to do more for humanity.

He said, “Clubs both large and small in terms of number of Members will have its own set of stakeholders. These are Members, Employees, Local and State Government regulators, Patrons, Trustees as well as surrounding Communities where the Club is operating. Social Responsibility is a social model that helps a Club or sets of individual with common interest to be socially accountable to itself, its stakeholders and the public.

“Environmental Social Responsibility-This refers to Club commitment to sustainability and environmentally friendly operations. Example -Like reserving two or three days during your anniversary week for Clean up days to protect local environment and support communities at encouraging Clean environment.

“Donation of Dust Bin at strategic places in the environment. Ethical/Human Right Social Responsibility -This refers to a Social /Philanthropic ideas to operate club activities in an ethical manner that uphold human rights principles, such as fair treatment of all stakeholders, fair trade practices and equity pay to employees.

“Philanthropic Social Responsibility- It refers to the Club’s aims, objectives for actively bettering Society as a whole. One huge aspect of philanthropic is donation of cash and/or materials to Homes for the handicaps Motherless.

“Health Related Philanthropic Responsibility-This refers to assistance to surrounding Communities to improve their health status. Such as rehabilitation of dilapidated buildings of health centers, Provision of Basic health test kits, Blood Pressure Test(BP) Blood Sugar (BS)and Urine Test”.
