The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the removal of Mr. Olusola Ebiseni as the Labour Party’s candidate for the Ondo State governorship election, following a directive from the Court of Appeal.
Just hours before the election, INEC reinstated Olorunfemi Ayodele Festus as the Labour Party’s candidate, whose name was initially listed for the 2024 Ondo governorship race.
The announcement was made through a post on INEC’s official X account on Friday. According to the post, INEC received the Certified True Copy of the Court of Appeal ruling on November 14, 2024.
This ruling overturned a Federal High Court (FHC) decision issued on September 27, 2024, which had mandated INEC to recognize Olusola Ebiseni as the Labour Party’s candidate.
The Court of Appeal, referencing appeal number CA/ABJ/CV/1172/2024 and filed by the Labour Party, dismissed the FHC’s judgment, citing a lack of jurisdiction.
In compliance with this appellate decision, INEC reinstated Olorunfemi Ayodele Festus as the Labour Party’s candidate and updated the information on its website.
