The Nigeria Police Force has intensified security measures across all 18 Local Government Areas of Ondo State in preparation for Saturday’s governorship election.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Sylvester Alabi, alongside the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, assured the public of their commitment to maintaining a peaceful and secure voting environment.
In a statement on Thursday, Adejobi confirmed that officers had been deployed to the state’s 203 wards and 3,933 polling units. “At least four police officers, supported by other security personnel, will be present at each polling unit to ensure a smooth process,” he stated.
Speaking at the Ondo State Police Command Headquarters in Akure, DIG Alabi emphasized the importance of intelligence gathering and swift action to address any security threats.
“Our comprehensive deployment spans all local government areas, aimed at deterring interference and ensuring public safety,” he said, urging both security agencies and citizens to work together to maintain order.
Alabi also reassured the public that contingency measures are in place to handle any disturbances. “We are prepared to respond effectively to any issues that may arise before, during, or after the polls,” he added.
The DIG reminded voters to comply with the Electoral Act, INEC guidelines, and other legal frameworks. “Anyone found engaging in electoral offenses or causing disruption will be apprehended and prosecuted,” he warned.
With these extensive security measures, the Police hope to boost public confidence and guarantee a smooth electoral process across the state.
