The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has welcomed the recently issued Presidential Order aimed at protecting the country’s Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII).
The order, signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, underscored the need to safeguard vital Information and Communications Technology (ICT) systems, networks, and infrastructure, which are fundamental to the nation’s security, economy, and public services.
In a statement released on the NCC’s official website on Friday, the Commission noted the significance of the directive, which sets out several key objectives to enhance the resilience and security of Nigeria’s digital assets.
The Presidential Order outlines measures to designate certain ICT systems, networks, and infrastructure as CNII, emphasizing the importance of developing cohesive strategies to secure and ensure the continued operation of these critical assets.
Also, the order advocated for a proactive and comprehensive approach to identifying, securing, and protecting CNII.
It also called for efforts to minimize disruptions that could affect the functionality and integrity of these infrastructures, ensuring that ICT systems critical to national imperatives such as economic development, public health, national security, and government operations remain fully operational.
The NCC noted that this Presidential Order represents a decisive step by the federal government to fortify Nigeria’s digital infrastructure, providing a much-needed framework for addressing emerging cyber threats.
This initiative is expected to further strengthen the country’s cybersecurity posture and contribute significantly to national development.
The NCC also reiterated its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to implement the order effectively, ensuring the long-term security and growth of Nigeria’s digital landscape.
