“You’re jobless, that’s why you’re protesting” – Wike hits back at Deji Adeyanju

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has responded to criticism from Deji Adeyanju, a well-known lawyer and activist, over recent demolition activities in Abuja.

Adeyanju, alongside activist Vincent Martins Otse (VeryDarkMan), led a protest last week, condemning Wike’s demolition of the Ruga settlement along Airport Road.

Adeyanju argued that “there is no justification for this demolition” and called on President Bola Tinubu to address the issue urgently. The demonstrators also carried placards demanding Wike’s removal from office.

In response, Wike dismissed Adeyanju’s criticism, suggesting that the activist was only seeking attention because he is “jobless.” In an interview with journalists, Wike revealed that Adeyanju had previously sought to become the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but was turned down.

Wike stated, “I saw this young man, Adeyanju, from Kogi State. He came to me asking to be the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, and I refused. He didn’t get the role, and I have no regrets about it. Now, he has reinvented himself as a civil society activist because he has no job.”

Wike’s comments have added a new dimension to the ongoing dispute, further fueling the controversy surrounding the demolition exercise.
