The Defence Headquarters has announced the deployment of troops ahead of the Ondo State governorship election scheduled for November 16.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen. Buba Edward, emphasized that the deployment aims to maintain peace and ensure the security of voters during the election process.
“Troops have been deployed in coordination with the police to support a peaceful off-cycle governorship election in Ondo State on November 16, 2024,” Edward stated.
He added, “The presence of our troops is to guarantee the safety of citizens, allowing them to vote freely without fear of harassment or intimidation. Additionally, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is involved in the transportation of sensitive electoral materials in support of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).”
Maj-Gen. Edward further disclosed recent military achievements, noting that 88 terrorists were neutralized, and 228 individuals were apprehended in various operations. He also reported that 40 suspects were detained for oil theft and 181 kidnapped hostages were rescued.
