A fuel tanker explosion at the Jigawa-Kano border on Tuesday, November 12, triggered widespread panic as a fire broke out along Maiduri Road, according to the Federal Fire Service (FFS) in Jigawa State.
Aliyu M. A., the Public Relations Officer of the FFS, confirmed the incident on Wednesday and praised the swift response from emergency teams.
“At around 10:43 a.m. on November 12, 2024, we received a distress call from the Kuho Village Head, Zubairu Ahmad, reporting a tanker accident at Tsaida, Kwanar Kalle, near Gamoji village,” Aliyu explained.
He continued, “Our team quickly arrived at the scene by 10:50 a.m., and the fire was successfully contained.”
This incident comes shortly after a devastating tanker explosion in October that claimed over 170 lives in Majia, Taura Local Government Area. In that case, a petrol tanker traveling from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State exploded, resulting in heavy casualties.
Although no injuries were reported in the latest explosion, the frequent occurrence of such accidents has raised serious concerns about the safety of fuel transportation in Jigawa.
