The CLEEN Foundation, a civil society organization dedicated to promoting peaceful elections, has reiterated its commitment to monitoring the conduct of security personnel during the election.
According to Peter Maduoma, the Acting Executive Director,
CLEEN Foundation, noted that election security support entre would be operational on election day, providing real-time updates and analysis of security activities.
As part of its preparations, CLEEN Foundation released its Election Security Threat Assessment (ESTA) for the Ondo 2024 governorship election and has engaged with relevant security agencies to address identified risks.
CLEEN Foundation also called on all stakeholders, including political parties, security agencies, INEC, the media, and the public, to uphold democratic values and work towards a peaceful electoral process.
The foundation acknowledged the efforts of security agencies in maintaining order during previous elections and urged them to remain vigilant throughout the voting period.
It emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of electoral violence, urging political parties and their supporters to avoid actions that could disrupt the process.
“Voter participation remains a key concern, with reports suggesting possible apathy among the electorate. CLEEN Foundation encouraged all eligible voters to actively participate in the election, emphasizing the importance of understanding their rights and responsibilities.
The statement also organization commended INEC’s preparations and urged the commission to ensure a smooth and credible process.
CLEEN Foundation sought efficient logistics, particularly in riverine areas, and prompt action against any instances of electoral malpractice. It also appealed to political leaders and their supporters to prioritize unity, respect the democratic process, and accept the election’s outcome.
It also urged the media to provide accurate, unbiased reporting and to avoid spreading inflammatory rhetoric that could incite violence.
“CLEEN Foundation will deploy a standard checklist with our trained Election Observers to observe the conduct of security personnel deployed to secure the 2024 Governorship elections across all the 18 Local Government Areas in Ondo state.
“Furthermore, CLEEN Foundation will open her Election Security Support Centre (ESSC) on Saturday morning to receive data from her citizens’ observers in the state.
“The ESSC will analyze and escalate perceived incidents with potential to disrupt the elections. CLEEN’s Election Situation Room will open to the public via 07060785112, 09095965956, and 08075418287. Lastly, CLEEN Foundation will issue her findings on the conduct of security personnel during the governorship elections in Ondo state
