President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the country’s toughest economic challenges are now behind them.
This message was conveyed by Stanley Nkwocha, spokesperson for the vice president, in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja.
President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, made this declaration during the inauguration of Monday Okpebholo and Dennis Idahosa as the governor and deputy governor of Edo State, respectively.
He described the event as a significant moment, marking a new chapter in Edo State’s history and the triumph of democratic values.
“We have overcome the most difficult period as a nation,” Tinubu said. “We have averted an economic collapse and are now moving forward into a phase of growth and recovery. When we assumed office, we knew that securing the future of our economy would require bold reforms to address looming fiscal and monetary challenges.”
The president also called for immediate reconciliation to bridge any post-election divides in Edo State, emphasizing the importance of unity.
“While some may attempt to disrupt peace after the expression of the people’s will, every elected leader has a responsibility to all citizens, including those who voted differently or ran in opposition,” Tinubu remarked. He added that true leadership is not defined by inherited problems, but by the sincerity and courage to address them.
Tinubu highlighted that the new administration’s commitment goes beyond political affiliations, stressing that Senator Okpebholo is dedicated to building a better Edo State—a place with ample job opportunities, strong education, modern infrastructure, and accessible healthcare for all citizens. He noted, “No political party has demonstrated greater unity and purpose in governance than the APC since we took charge.”
In his inaugural address, Governor Okpebholo expressed gratitude to the people of Edo State for their trust, pledging never to betray their confidence.
He outlined a five-point agenda focused on health, security, education, economic growth, and infrastructure development.
“Edo shall rise again,” Okpebholo declared. “My administration is committed to fixing the roads across the state to make them fully motorable once more.”
