Farmers flee farms after discovering kidnappers’ corpses near FCT

Must read

Farmers in the Achido community of Abaji Area Council, located near Ohiore in Toto LGA of Nasarawa State, are alarmed after finding decomposing bodies of suspected kidnappers on their farmland.

Recently, local vigilantes and hunters engaged in a confrontation with suspected kidnappers, reportedly killing several of them and rescuing 14 kidnapped victims.

Now, the discovery of the bodies has left farmers in the area afraid to tend to their fields.

One of the farmers, Samari Gambo, recounted how he found three decomposed, bullet-riddled bodies on his land, creating an unbearable stench in the area. He explained that many farmers have been avoiding their fields due to fear of further danger.

Gambo said he quickly harvested some crops and left the farm, suspecting the bodies were those of kidnappers who had been injured in the recent clash and later died in the bush.

Another farmer, Samuel Gwatana, discovered four more corpses in the bush, further heightening the community’s anxiety. Gwatana explained that since the vigilantes’ raid, some farmers have hesitated to return to their land out of fear.

He also recounted how kidnappers used to intimidate farmers, even ordering them to leave their fields to buy supplies before allowing them to resume work.

Gwatana urged the authorities in Abaji Area Council to coordinate with Toto LGA officials to arrange for the burial of the decomposing bodies.
