President-elect Donald Trump has appointed billionaire Elon Musk and former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), with a mandate to cut down bureaucracy, reduce waste, and streamline federal operations to drive economic growth and accountability.
Trump likened DOGE to a “Manhattan Project” for modern governance, aiming to revamp a federal budget that now surpasses $6.5 trillion annually.
Both Musk and Ramaswamy, recognized for their innovative approaches in the business world, are expected to bring an entrepreneurial mindset to Washington.
Trump noted, “They will advise from outside government, collaborating with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget to introduce a pioneering business-focused approach to government.”
The president-elect emphasized that DOGE’s main objective is to cut government spending while boosting efficiency.
“They’ll work together to revitalize our economy and ensure the government is truly accountable to the American people,” Trump said.
DOGE’s mission will centre on eliminating unnecessary regulations and implementing significant reforms, potentially reshaping U.S. politics and public policy toward a leaner and more efficient federal government.
