A popular fitness centre in Abuja Gwarinpa axis was severely damaged by a fire that broke out on Wednesday morning, causing extensive damage to the facility and raising concerns about safety standards in the area.
The fire reportedly started on Wednesday morning engulfing the fitness hub located in the bustling Gwarinpa axis.
Eyewitnesses say they saw thick smoke billowing from the building before flames erupted, quickly spreading throughout the fitness centre.
The incident drew a large crowd, with many onlookers and residents expressing shock as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
A witness, Ibrahim Musa, who was passing by the area, recounted the scene, saying, “It was like an explosion. The fire spread so fast, and people started gathering, worried it could reach other buildings.” Due to the high density of businesses and residences nearby, there was a strong response from emergency services to prevent further spread.
Firefighters from the Federal Fire Service arrived on the scene shortly after the alarm was raised, battling the flames before bringing the fire under control.
Preliminary investigations suggest the blaze may have been caused by an electrical fault, but officials have yet to confirm the exact cause.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the cause of the fire.
The fitness hub is a well-known spot for health and wellness enthusiasts in Abuja, drawing members from various parts of the city.
As one of the few high-profile facilities of its kind, the fire has sparked discussions about fire safety standards and emergency preparedness in similar establishments across Abuja.
