The Kano Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has dismissed two judges and suspended six other court personnel following investigations into allegations of misconduct.
The disciplinary actions were announced on Sunday, November 10, by JSC spokesperson Baba Ibrahim, who confirmed that the measures followed thorough inquiries into various professional breaches.
Magistrate Nasir Ado was dismissed after being found guilty of holding court sessions without properly recording the proceedings, a serious violation of judicial protocols.
Ibrahim explained that the commission accepted the recommendation of the Judicial and Public Complaints Committee (JPCC), stating, “Nasir Ado’s actions were deemed gross misconduct, leading to his removal from judicial duties.”
Similarly, Sharia court judge Yusuf Kawu was also dismissed after being found guilty of improperly releasing a convicted criminal, bypassing necessary procedures.
In addition to the dismissals, the JSC imposed suspensions and warnings on several other staff members. Magistrates Sanusi Atana and Alkali Abubakar Abdullahi received official warnings for exceeding their legal authority, which the JSC stated could lead to confusion and unfair judgments, undermining the integrity of the judicial process.
Among the non-judicial staff penalized, Finance Registrar Salisu Nayola was forced into early retirement for allegedly soliciting bribes.
The Court messenger Shuaibu Bello was suspended without pay for four months due to involvement in corrupt practices.
