New terrorist group poses serious threat to national security – ACF warns

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has sounded an alarm over the rising threat of the Lakurawa terrorist group, which is reportedly gaining a foothold in Nigeria’s northwest, specifically in Sokoto and Kebbi states.

During an interview on Channels Television, ACF’s publicity secretary, Tukur Muhammad-Baba, voiced concerns about the escalating activities of the group.

He highlighted that Lakurawa has set up operational bases in some communities and has even begun to replace local governance structures, imposing their own justice system in defiance of established authorities.

Muhammad-Baba described the group’s growing influence as a severe threat to national security, urging swift and decisive action from the government to protect the country’s sovereignty.

“They are not a new group; the Department of State Services (DSS) is already aware of their activities,” he said. “We initially believed they had been driven out, but it later became clear that a deal was struck, giving them an ultimatum to either leave or face an attack.”

He further warned, “This is a serious threat to national security. When a group establishes bases and begins imposing its own security and justice systems, it signals a takeover of our sovereignty.”
