EFCC clears Senator Goje’s daughter of Naira abuse allegations at wedding

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has clarified that a widely circulated video showing Naira notes being sprayed at a wedding in Kano on October 24, 2024, was not from the wedding of Mrs Fauziya Danjuma Goje, daughter of Senator Danjuma Goje, as previously speculated.

The EFCC’s statement, issued in response to public criticism and a national newspaper editorial, explained that the video depicts the wedding of Amina Babagana Zannah, daughter of Hajara Seidu Haruna, CEO of Hafsat Jewellery Enterprise.

Haruna confirmed that the Naira and dollar spraying occurred at her daughter’s wedding dinner, with members of the groom’s family, who are from Niger Republic, responsible for the currency display.

Following this discovery, the EFCC has summoned the groom, Ibrahim Mohammad, and other individuals seen spraying currency in the video, to its headquarters in Abuja.

The EFCC expressed appreciation for the public’s awareness regarding Naira abuse but emphasized its commitment to investigating each case fairly, noting it would not target any individuals based on erroneous information.
