The Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has disciplined eight judiciary employees for various forms of misconduct, as announced in a statement by the Kano State Judiciary spokesperson, Mr Baba Jibo-Ibrahim, on Sunday.
At the commission’s 76th meeting on November 4, it reviewed complaints filed against judiciary staff and decided to enforce compulsory retirement for two court registrars.
Among those facing disciplinary actions are Magistrates Nasir Ado, Alkali Yusuf Kawu, and Sanusi Usman-Atana, along with Finance Registrar Salisu Adamu-Nayola, Alkali Abdulmuminu Nuhu, Alkali Abubakar Abdullahi, court messenger Shuaibu Bello, and court registrar Shamsu Abbas.
An inquiry by the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee (JPCC) into two complaints against Magistrate Nasir Ado revealed that he had conducted proceedings without proper records and later altered records to suggest the proceedings had been documented.
This was deemed severe misconduct, leading the JSC to recall Ado from his judicial duties.
Magistrate Sanusi Atana received a warning after it was found that he improperly took on a role related to premises recovery in a criminal trial and granted bail to a suspect prematurely, without notifying the prosecution.
Finance Registrar Salisu Adamu Nayola of Kiru Sharia Court was directed to retire after a JPCC investigation confirmed that he had accepted bribes to expedite inheritance processes.
Alkali Abubakar Abdullahi of the Takai Sharia Court received a formal warning for handling a case outside his assigned jurisdiction.
He was advised to remain within his official territorial boundaries.
The commission’s investigation also found that court messenger Shuaibu Bello had engaged in corrupt practices by demanding extra fees above the official rates for filing cases.
Additionally, Shamsu Abbas, a court registrar, was forced into retirement after granting bail to a suspect without an official court assignment for the case and ordering the suspect to provide financial compensation, which exceeded his authority.
