Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party, has expressed support for Nigerian youths seeking opportunities abroad, emphasizing that migration could be a temporary solution until the nation improves.
During his donation of N60 million to two institutions in Anambra State, Obi highlighted that those who migrate for better opportunities would eventually return when Nigeria’s situation improves.
He donated N50 million to Peter University in Achina/Onneh and N10 million to the School of Nursing Sciences in Adazi-Nnukwu.
Speaking to students at the College of Nursing Sciences, Obi acknowledged the difficult realities some face in Nigeria and said, “If it is not going to work for you here, go to where it will work for you. We will not advise anyone to stay where it is difficult for them.”
He assured students that a better future awaited Nigeria, which would eventually close the door to the need for migration.
Obi also shared a personal story about his former assistant, Michael-Jude, who moved to the UK to further his studies and is now studying alongside his wife. “I am now looking for a new PA,” he joked, noting that opportunities abroad are valid for those seeking growth.
At Peter University, Obi encouraged students to focus on academic excellence, stressing that education is a critical driver of societal progress.
“Education is the most impactful tool for societal progress,” he said, urging students to see themselves as future leaders capable of bringing change to the country.
