Olubunmi Johnson, a 55-year-old man, has been detained by the Ogun State police on allegations of setting his wife on fire following a dispute.
Police Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola confirmed the details of the tragedy on Monday.
She revealed that the incident took place around 8:30 pm on Friday in the couple’s home on Fagbuyi Street, Ilogbo, Ota.
Sources revealed that the disagreement escalated, leading Johnson to allegedly pour petrol on his wife, Kikelomo, before igniting it.
Police Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola confirmed the details, noting that the victim’s family alerted authorities to the incident.
Though the exact cause of the dispute remains unknown, Odutola stated that a witness managed to transport Kikelomo to a hospital immediately after the attack.
She further explained that officers from the Ilogbo Division responded promptly, arresting Johnson, who now faces an investigation for attempted murder.
Odutola said, “Officers swiftly intervened, resulting in the suspect’s detention. The husband reportedly poured petrol over his wife and set her ablaze with a match.
“Witnesses acted quickly to get her medical attention, and detectives responded promptly to apprehend the suspect, who is now in custody.”
