The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that two individuals were killed and two others injured by armed attackers in Abeokuta early Monday morning.
In a statement, police spokesperson SP Omolola Odutola reported that three armed men in an unregistered black Toyota Hilux confronted passengers in a black Mercedes Benz GLE 350 with a DLA plate, demanding the vehicle keys.
The attackers then fired shots, injuring one person identified as Ola (surname unknown), Shobanke Oluwatimileyin, and two others.
The Divisional Police Officer from Ibara responded to distress calls, securing the scene and transporting the victims to the hospital.
Upon arrival, doctors pronounced two victims dead, while the other two were admitted to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta, for treatment.
Odutola also indicated that a preliminary investigation is underway to understand the circumstances of the incident and to determine if it might be linked to cult-related activities.
She added that updates would be provided as the investigation progresses and as efforts to apprehend the suspects continue.
