Police arrest man for murder of newborn in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old man, whose name remains confidential, in connection with the alleged murder of his newborn child in Mubi North Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson SP Suleiman Nguroje announced the arrest in a statement released from Yola on Saturday.

According to Nguroje, the suspect was taken into custody on November 8 following allegations of killing his three-day-old son.

The case was reported to authorities by the baby’s mother, who is reportedly the suspect’s girlfriend.

According to the police, the mother accused her boyfriend of taking the infant’s life shortly after she had given birth.

Nguroje revealed that preliminary findings indicate the man had fathered the child. When the baby was born, the mother reportedly contacted the suspect, urging him to come and take responsibility for their child.

Later that evening, he visited her home, instructed her to run an errand, and took the baby during her absence.

According to police, the suspect allegedly killed the infant and buried the body in the Girpata area of Mubi.

The Adamawa Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, has directed that the case be forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a thorough investigation into the incident.
