Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Edo State’s recent September 21 gubernatorial election, has called on party members to brace for a difficult journey ahead as they seek to reclaim what he referred to as a “stolen mandate.”
Addressing party members in Benin on Friday at the inauguration of a caretaker committee established by the PDP’s National Working Committee, Ighodalo stressed the need for unity and resilience.
He acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing Governor, Godwin Obaseki, praising his commitment and leadership. “Governor Obaseki has shown exceptional focus and dedication, guiding the people with integrity,” Ighodalo said, urging members to stay committed to their goal.
The inauguration event formalized the caretaker committee, which will manage party affairs until new executives are chosen. Dr. Tony Aziegbemi was named as the committee’s chair, with Hon.
Henry Duke Tenebe as Secretary. Other committee members include Harrison Omagbon, Fidel Igenegbale, Chris Nehikhare, Tony Anenih Jnr, Archbishop Anthony Okosun, Segun Saiki, Adezat Ibrahim, and Augustine Edosomwan.
Ighodalo’s rallying message to PDP members comes as the party prepares for legal battles to challenge the election outcome.
He outlined the expected timeline, noting that a response to their petition is anticipated soon, with further filings extending into late November. Pre-hearing proceedings are set to commence later in the month, followed by the main hearings.
“Our legal team is prepared to respond as needed. Though these are challenging times, we must remain strong and resilient as we work to reclaim what is rightfully ours,” Ighodalo affirmed.
