A violent clash in Kebbi State has led to the deaths of over 15 people following an altercation between residents of the Mera community and members of the newly emerging terrorist group, Lakurawa, reportedly linked to ISIS’s Sahel operations.
According to a report from BBC Hausa, the incident occurred on Friday near Mera, located in Kebbi State’s Augie Local Government Area.
The conflict erupted when members of the Lakurawa group confronted a local herder, allegedly attempting to steal his livestock.
The herder quickly alerted the Mera community, prompting residents to mobilize and confront the group, resulting in a deadly clash that left 15 dead and many wounded.
The residents reportedly killed some of the attackers, causing the rest to retreat, carrying away their casualties.
Following the attack, Kebbi State’s Deputy Governor visited Mera to offer condolences, accompanied by the Commissioner of Police and the Emir of Argungu.
The governor’s media aide, Abdullahi Idris Zuru, confirmed the presence of Lakurawa in parts of Kebbi and reassured that state authorities are actively working to address the group’s activities.
