BREAKING: FCT residents protest, call for Wike’s removal

Must read

On Friday, residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) took to the streets in protest against Minister Nyesom Wike, voicing their discontent over his alleged policies targeting vulnerable communities.

The demonstrators accused the minister of initiating land-grabbing schemes that have disproportionately affected the poor, displacing families from their homes.

Human rights activists joined the protest, condemning the actions of the FCT administration under Wike’s leadership and calling for an immediate intervention.

The protesters urged President Bola Tinubu to address what they described as “unjust policies” and demanded Wike’s removal as FCT Minister.

They claimed the former Rivers State governor’s actions have led to increased hardship for local residents.

Prominent lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju, who participated in the protest, criticized the minister’s land policies.

“Residents are alarmed by the relentless efforts to seize land from poor communities,” Adeyanju stated.

“We appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and compel the FCT minister to return lands to the rightful owners. The lands of the poor belong to the poor, not the wealthy elite. If the minister is in search of land, he should look to areas like Asokoro, Maitama Extension, and Guzape instead of targeting impoverished neighborhoods. This will only exacerbate insecurity in the country.”

Social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, also voiced his concerns about the situation.

He remarked, “In this struggling economy, with rising dollar rates and food prices, displacing people from their homes without providing alternatives is heartless. It’s pure wickedness and will lead to heightened insecurity.”
