E-hailing driver Stephen Abuwatseya has publicly apologized to Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives representing Aba North and South in Abia State, following an altercation in Abuja concerning a package delivery.

In a video message shared on Thursday, Abuwatseya expressed regret for his actions, which he said may have provoked Ikwechegh, and asked Nigerians for understanding.

Abuwatseya stated, “My name is Stephen Abuwatseya. Recently, I had a misunderstanding with Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh.

“I want to apologize for anything I may have said or done that led to his reaction. I urge all Nigerians to put this matter behind us and focus on unity.”

Appealing to the public for forgiveness, he added, “Let us come together as one nation and forgive one another. Unity and moving forward as a country are what matter most.”

He also expressed gratitude to his family and supporters, thanking them for standing by him during the ordeal.

Previously, AFRIPOST reported that Ikwechegh was granted bail by the Chief Magistrate Court in Kuje, Abuja, after video footage emerged showing him allegedly assaulting Abuwatseya.

During the court session, Ikwechegh faced charges of assault, threat to life, and abuse of office, filed by the office of the Inspector-General of Police. He pleaded not guilty.

The judge set bail at N500,000 with two sureties, who must live within the court’s jurisdiction and provide proof of residency. The court scheduled the next hearing for November 8.
