NiMet forecasts sunny, hazy weather nationwide from Thursday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting sunny and hazy conditions across the country from Thursday through Saturday.

In a statement released Wednesday in Abuja, NiMet forecasted a combination of sunshine and haziness over Borno, Adamawa, and Taraba states on Thursday, with moderate dust haze.

Visibility in other parts of the northern region is expected to range between 2 to 5 kilometers.

The forecast for North Central anticipates moderate dust haze with localized visibility between 2 to 5 kilometers.

The southern inland areas are expected to experience a sunny and hazy atmosphere, while coastal areas may see sunny skies with patches of clouds in the morning.

Later in the afternoon and evening, localized thunderstorms with moderate rain are likely in parts of Ogun, Lagos, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.

On Friday, NiMet predicts moderate dust haze for the northern region, with horizontal visibility ranging from 1 to 3 kilometers, and localized visibility of 1 kilometer or less in some areas.

North Central is expected to have similar conditions with visibility between 2 to 5 kilometers. Southern inland areas will continue to see sunny and hazy weather, with coastal areas expected to have cloudy skies in the morning, followed by possible thunderstorms and moderate rain over states such as Abia, Anambra, Imo, Ogun, and southern Ondo later in the day.

Saturday’s forecast includes moderate dust haze in the northern region, with visibility between 2 to 5 kilometers, and localized visibility of 1 kilometer or less.

The North Central region is expected to have moderate dust haze as well, while the southern inland areas should see sunny and hazy conditions with patchy clouds over coastal areas.

NiMet advised the public to take precautions, particularly those with respiratory conditions, as dust particles remain in the air.

The agency also advised airline operators to obtain specific weather reports for safe planning, and urged residents to stay informed with updates through NiMet’s website at www.nimet.gov.ng.
