The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved the reinstatement of the suspended Chairman of Oyo East Local Government, Hon. Olusola Oluokun.
The decision according the the hallowed chamber follows a resolution passed at a plenary session on Thursday, November 7 at the floor of the House.
AFRIPOST can recall that Oluokun was suspended following a video on social media showing him in an uncouth position making remarks deemed inappropriate and unexpected of a person occupying such public office.
Oluokun was however cleared of the charges leveled against him after an inquiry conducted by the Assembly’s Committee on Local Government and Chieftancy Matters exonerated the council boss.
Honorable Akintunde Olajide representing Lagelu state Constituency and chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters presented its committee report to the House on Thursday.
According to the report, the suspended chairman did not intentionally posted the said video that led to his suspension on social media and subsequently showed genuine remorse and therefore, recommended immediate reinstatement.
Lawmakers, including the Deputy Speaker, Muhammed Fadeyi, Gbenga Oyekola, Hon. Olorunpoto Rahman, and others, in their separate submissions commended the committee in charge for doing what was described as the most accelerated house committee investigation.
The House noted that the suspension would serve a note of caution to others who may be carefree in the way and manner they conduct themselves both in office and public.
Consequent upon adoption of the committee report and deliberation on the report, the House in a unanimous position agreed that the suspended chairman be reinstated.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, directed that the vice chairman who acted as the executive chairman revert back to his position.
The Speaker therefore, announced the immediate reinstatement of Hon. Oluokun and called for caution on the part of public office holders in the way and manner they conduct themselves especially in public.
