The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has raised concerns over the detention of minors following the #Endbadgovernance protest on August 1.
Afripost reports that during a visit to the minors at the Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital in Kano, where they are undergoing rehabilitation after their release, Sanusi called on security agencies to direct their efforts toward arresting the true instigators of the unrest rather than detaining innocent children.
“Many of these minors are students who were simply picked up from the streets, far from the scenes of the violence,” Sanusi explained. He described the treatment the minors received as “sad” but expressed gratitude to the federal government and the presidency for their swift intervention, which led to the minors’ release.
He added, “Had this situation continued, many of these children could have lost their lives.”
Sanusi further emphasized the need for authorities to focus on those responsible for inciting the violence, noting that the adults behind the riots in Kano had been captured in photographs and were still seen in public, including in Abuja, walking freely.
He stressed the importance of holding these individuals accountable to prevent further injustices.
The Emir also thanked President Bola Tinubu and Kano Governor Abba Yusuf for their roles in securing the minors’ release and expressed appreciation to everyone involved in their rehabilitation.
