Bandits sack Zamfara community, kidnap chief Imam, 100 others

Must read

Bandits recently launched an attack on Wanke, near Gusau in Zamfara State, abducting roughly 100 residents, including a chief Imam who was kidnapped for the second time.

AFRIPOST reports that the state government and police have not yet responded to the incident.

A resident who survived the attack shared with BBC Hausa that the affected communities are now under siege, prompting many to flee out of fear of additional assaults.

He reported that over 50 people were abducted near Sabon Layi and another 50 near Dagon Hayi, with the final count of missing individuals still underway.

The witness described a harrowing scene, saying the bandits pursued residents as if they were hunting animals, causing terror as people ran for their lives.

He noted that the attackers used motorbikes to chase down their targets, including women they tracked into homes, capturing some as they attempted to escape.

The assailants reportedly raided several communities—Gira, Ruwa Kusa, Dogon Hayi, and Gidan Kado—stealing motorcycles, farm produce, phones, and provisions from shops.

According to a local source, officials in Wanke were alerted but did not take action. Attempts to reach the police for comment have so far been unsuccessful.
