The Osun Amotekun Corps recently detained a 27-year-old man, Hassan Olalekan, in connection with multiple armed robberies, looting incidents, and break-ins in various locations across Osun State.
According to a statement from the Corps Commander, Isaac Omoyele, issued by Public Relations Officer Yusuf Idowu, Olalekan, originally from Ile-Ife and residing in Ilesa, was apprehended in Ila-Orangun and then transferred to the State Headquarters for more in-depth investigation.
The statement disclosed that Olalekan’s arrest resulted from a targeted operation supported by credible intelligence.
His capture has exposed his involvement in numerous criminal activities alongside three associates, identified as Segun, Wale, and Adebayo.
The group is suspected of orchestrating a series of robberies and burglaries in Ila-Orangun, Iree, and Ilesa. Heavily armed, they allegedly carried out these crimes using pistols and barrel guns to intimidate and control their victims.
In his confession, Olalekan admitted to carrying out these robberies with his accomplices across the towns.
He explained that they used their weapons to break into residences and businesses, stealing cash, electronics, and other valuables. The gang typically operated at night to avoid detection as they moved between locations.
Corps Commander Omoyele Isaac described Olalekan as a key figure in a criminal network that has long been troubling Osun State. “This arrest is a significant step in our crackdown on crime in the state,” he stated, affirming their dedication to holding such offenders accountable.
The Corps, in coordination with the Nigeria Police, has referred Olalekan’s case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive probe.
Efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the other members of the gang still at large and to retrieve stolen property.
Omoyele also encouraged Osun residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities, stressing that community safety relies on collective vigilance. He assured the public of the Corps’ commitment to securing Osun State for all its citizens.
