Albert Atta Opoku Vohdi, a youth activist with Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC), recently highlighted former President John Dramani Mahama’s promise to revitalize the Gomoa Pomadze Feed Mill if re-elected.
According to Mr. Opoku, this pledge to reopen the mill is expected to resonate strongly with voters in Gomoaman, Effutuman, and Agonaman, likely boosting Mahama’s support in the upcoming December 7 election.
During a recent Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission festival, Maulvi Muhammad Bin Salin, leader of the Ghanaian branch, urged Mahama to fulffulfil commitment, describing it as one of his most impactful pledges for the Central Region.
Opoku explained that the Gomoa Pomadze Feed Mill could serve as a significant economic asset, particularly for the area’s fishmongers.
Globally, fish waste is converted into poultry feed, a process that would benefit Ghana’s coastal communities by establishing a market for fish by-products.
He noted that the feed mill would not only support local fishmongers but also drive job creation, with plans to set up storage facilities in key coastal towns such as Senya, Nyanyano, and Winneba, allowing fish waste to be collected and preserved for processing.
The mill would further help reduce Ghana’s reliance on imported poultry and fish feed, ultimately conserving foreign currency. Additionally, it could end the country’s dependency on importing day-old chicks, which would support domestic poultry growth.
Opoku emphasized that the NDC’s social policies, including their plans to bolster livestock and poultry production, could help address the challenges facing Ghana’s food sector, particularly in school feeding programs. He argued that the mill would contribute to establishing government farms across 15 regions, excluding the densely populated Greater Accra Region.
Mahama’s plan also includes distributing free coops and day-old chicks to individuals interested in poultry farming, a move expected to encourage more people to enter the livestock business.
Opoku concluded by urging voters to support Mahama, the NDC’s vice-presidential candidate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman, and other NDC parliamentary candidates as a vote for a brighter future.
