Army engage Boko Haram in fierce Sambisa forest clash, casualties reported

Must read

In a significant clash, Nigerian forces under Operation Hadin Kai engaged Boko Haram insurgents in a fierce gunfight in the Sambisa Forest, specifically between the Yagnare and Bone areas.

Acting on intelligence reports about Boko Haram activity in the dense forest region, troops advanced on the location early Tuesday, only to face an unexpected ambush from the insurgents.

The ensuing battle was intense, as soldiers and insurgents exchanged heavy gunfire for several hours.

Despite the challenging conditions and the element of surprise held by Boko Haram, Nigerian forces were able to overpower the insurgents, reportedly killing several fighters.

In addition to these casualties, the troops seized several weapons, including rifles, which are believed to have been used in previous attacks in the region.

Unfortunately, the encounter was not without loss. One member of the civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), a group that supports the Nigerian military in anti-terror operations, lost his life during the firefight.

Another JTF member sustained injuries and has since been evacuated for medical treatment.

AFRIPOST reports that Operation Hadin Kai, an ongoing military initiative in Nigeria’s northeast, aims to root out Boko Haram and restore peace to regions affected by the insurgency.

The recent clash highlights the continuing challenges faced by Nigerian forces in countering insurgent groups that use the Sambisa Forest as a stronghold.

Military officials have reiterated their commitment to neutralizing Boko Haram and are reportedly increasing patrols and surveillance in the area to prevent further ambushes.

The incident underscores the resilience and risks undertaken by both military personnel and civilian volunteers in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, as they work to secure affected communities and curb Boko Haram’s influence in the region.
