Lagos teacher held in custody over alleged sexual abuse of minor

A Lagos-based teacher, Omobolanle Micheal Olaniyi (25), has been remanded in custody following allegations of sexual misconduct involving a six-year-old student.

On November 4, 2024, Justice Ramon Oshodi made the ruling at the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court.

Olaniyi was arrested on July 24, 2023, and charged with indecent treatment and sexual assault by penetration.

The prosecution, led by B. E. Okeowo, cited violations of Lagos State’s Criminal Laws (2015), Sections 135 and 261.

The alleged incidents occurred at Oliver Care Montessori School in Ogba, where Olaniyi worked.

Charges stated he indecently touched the minor’s buttocks, carried her on his lap, and committed sexual assault by digital penetration.

Olaniyi pleaded not guilty to the charges. Justice Oshodi ordered his remand and scheduled the next hearing for February 4, 2025.
